RPD Seeks Driver Who Fled On Foot After Hit-&-Run In North Redding

A Redding School was locked down Friday afternoon while police searched for a hit-and-run suspect who apparently fled across the campus. Shortly after 1 O’clock there was a collision on North Market Street at Benton Drive between a Nissan car and a Chevy pickup. The Nissan driver was hospitalized as the pickup driver fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Identified by the RPD as 51-year-old Dillon Carmelo, he reportedly jumped a cinder block wall, ran across the Turtle Bay School campus, and continued on. The area was searched by Redding Police with K9s, and with help from CHP Air Operations, but they came up empty and Carmelo remains wanted. Photos are on the KQMS Facebook page.
