Update: Fire Guts Large Home In East Redding Early Thursday

A pricey East Redding house was destroyed by fire Thursday morning. Redding Fire Department crews responded at 5:30AM to multiple reports of fire at the end of Whaley Road, which is east of Victor Avenue and just north of Highway 44. First arriving engines called for a second alarm after finding a large house at 1889Wwhaley with flames visible out of the roof. Nobody was home and the fire had progressed throughout the interior of the home. The fire was knocked down in about 25 minutes but the house was gutted and two cars in the garage were also destroyed. The cause is under investigation. The house was a total loss, with the value of the damage estimated at $557,000 and another $100,000 worth of contents.
