A parolee is accused of an unprovoked attack on a homeless man. Sunday morning Redding Police were called to a homeless camp behind the RABA Station on South Market Street where a 65-year-old man was suffering severe stab wounds to his face, torso and legs. He told officers he had been asleep in his tent when he heard someone approaching. He looked and saw a man he didn’t know and asked him to stay away, but the man attacked him with a large knife. The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital and was in stable condition at last word. During a search of the area officers found 29-year-old Devan Nelson hiding under a sheet with a fresh cut to his hand. He was booked into jail for attempted murder.
