A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 5 in Cottonwood on Saturday night. The CHP says that just after 11PM 28-year-old Mathew Brooks Garcia was traveling northbound in a Ford F250 pickup north of the Main Street exit. The pickup was traveling at about 75 miles an hour in the slow lane when for unknown reasons an unidentified pedestrian who was walking along the freeway moved directly into the path of the pickup. Brooks Garcia saw the unidentified man and swerved to the left to avoid hitting him, but he was struck by the front passenger side of the pickup. The man was declared dead at the scene. The CHP says drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the collision.
