Oversight Forces Special Election For Shasta Lake City Council Seat

Two Shasta Lake City Council seats will be decided a week from Tuesday, but a third seat will apparently be decided by a special election next March. The seat had been vacated by the death of Larry Farr, and the council appointed Matt Doyle, the Manager of Shasta Caverns, to serve the remainder of the term through the end of 2024. Doyle can no longer do so because he moved out of Shasta Lake City limits. The estimated cost could be as much as $80,000 which the council will likely ask the county to bear. County Elections Chief Cathy Darling-Allen has acknowledged that it was her oversight that prevented the item from making it onto the General Election ballot.
