Efforts To Declare Cameron Hooker A Sexually Violent Predator Delayed Until February

There’s been another in a long series of delays in a new trial for a Red Bluff man who kept a woman locked in a box most of the time for 7 years. In 1984 Colleen Stan escaped from Cameron Hooker, who had been raping her, torturing her and holding her in a wooden box since 1977. He was sentenced to 104 years in prison after a trial in San Mateo County, where the case had been relocated to find an impartial jury. Sentencing reform laws have now made it possible for Hooker to be paroled. A hearing earlier this year prompted an order for a trial that would have Hooker declared a sexually violent predator, making it easier to keep him behind bars. Dates for that trial should be set in February.
