Man Charged With Felony Arson After Seperate Fires At Empire Recovery Center

A person being treated at a Redding rehab center has been arrested for arson. On Tuesday of last week and Monday of this week, Redding Fire Department was called to the Empire Recovery Center on California Street for a smell of smoke. Both times fire personnel spent over an hour searching unsuccessfully for the source of the smell. On Tuesday a worker at the center called again and said he believed he found the source. Christopher Hooks had apparently lit two areas in the wall of the room where he was staying. Damage is estimated at $5,000. Hooks has been charged with two counts of felony arson to an inhabited structure.
