With an increasing number of overdose deaths and hospitalizations as a result of Fentanyl, the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office is giving notice to drug dealers that they’ll be held accountable. Defendants are being told that if someone dies after being provided the highly concentrated narcotic, the dealer can be charged with second degree murder. The DA’s Office says the legal precedent is similar to that which allows murder charges in the event of DUI deaths. There are current prosecutions underway charging Fentanyl dealers with murder.
