3 Avalanches Reported On Mount Shasta After Recent Storms Dump Snow

Several recent avalanches on Mount Shasta have made conditions unsafe for people recreating in remote parts of the mountain and with warmer weather more are likely, according the the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center. Three avalanches fell between December 7th and 12th, but all failed because of a weak layer of snow. No one was hurt, but had someone been in the area they could have been injured or killed. If you are going to be in the higher elevations of Mount Shasta be prepared and check conditions ahead of time. Also carry a signal device with a beacon or transceiver. Let someone know where you are going, and when you will return. More snow if forecast for next week. Details are available at shastaavalanche.org.
