Film Screening Will Focus On History Weed’s Lincoln Heights Community

United Way will host a free screening of a film about a historically black community that was devastated by the Mill Fire in Weed last September. Lincoln Heights is considered to be the oldest black settlement west of the Mississippi. 118 homes were destroyed and two were killed in the fire. The film “From the Quarters to Lincoln Heights” will describe the history and culture of the community. Created by Siskiyou film maker and artist Mark Oliver it will explain how the area came to be in the 1920’s. The free event takes place Sunday at the Riverfront Playhouse.
