More than 600 people who lost homes or were otherwise affected by the September 13th Mill Fire in Weed are reviewing settlements negotiated between Redding attorney Russell Reiner and Roseburg Forest Products. Although an official cause of the fire has not been determined, Roseburg has been investigating claims that equipment caused the fire, and had already made payments to some who lost homes. Two women were killed in the fire which destroyed 118 homes mostly in the historically black Lincoln Heights neighborhood. Three others were injured. In September, another attorney- Ben Crump – announced that he is also representing several dozen people who lived in the area. The status of his lawsuit is unclear. Those represented by Reiner must still approve the settlement, the details of which remain confidential.
