Man Will Be Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison For DUI Crash That Left Two Dead

A 30-year-old man who drove drunk and killed two people has agreed to a plea bargain that will give him a 30 year prison sentence. At 2:30AM on September 13th of 2019, Sadiel Ramon Martinez was driving a Dodge Ram pickup the wrong way on Northbound Interstate Five near Lakehead when he crashed head-on into a Ford pickup just south of McCardle Flat Road, killing 29-year-old Austin Miller of Mount Shasta and 30-year-old Ashley Wright of Oregon. Martinez’s passenger had an open ankle fracture, but Martinez was apparently not seriously hurt. Martinez admitted to the CHP that he had been drinking at a Redding bar. His blood alcohol level was .22%. Sadiel had recently moved from Miami, Florida to Old Shasta, where he had a large illegal pot garden and illegal weapons, according to the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force.
