Redding Police say they have no idea on a motive for a stabbing Saturday in Downtown Redding, but an arrest has been made. At 9:24AM Officers and medical help were called to the RABA Bs Terminal off Yuba Street. A 66-year-old man had been about to board a city bus when he felt two or three strikes to his back and then felt blood running down his back. He looked behind him and saw his attacker walking away. The victim apparently had no idea who the man was, describing him to police as having long curly brown hair, facial hair and a long brown coat. The man was treated at a hospital and released. Meanwhile RPD Detectives interviewed witnesses and recovered video surveillance footage from the RABA Terminal, eventually identifying the assailant as 34-year-old Timothy Atkins. He’s on Post Release Supervision after serving time for felony battery. He also has prior police contacts for resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon and public intoxication. On Wednesday officers saw Atkins loitering at the scene of the crime and brought him in for questioning. He allegedly admitted to the stabbing and was booked into jail for charges including attempted murder.
