Longtime County Council Announces April Retirement

Shasta County government is losing another one of it’s high profile non-elected leaders. County Counsel Rubin Cruse Jr has served in the county’s legal office for over 24 years and has been county counsel for half that time, serving as the attorney for all county legal matters. He’s announced that his last day will be April 21st. Cruse joined a number of county leaders who have left or been fired in the last couple of years but have not been permanently replaced, including CEO Matt Pontes, Health and Human Services Director Donell Ewert and County Medical Officer Karen Ramstrom. The same political forces, with the backing of Supervisor Patrick Jones, also orchestrated the recall of Supervisor Leonard Moty and the attempted recalls of Mary Rickert and Joe Chimenti.
