Pedestrian Suffer Major Injuries After Being Struck By Vehicle In Hayfork

A Hayfork woman suffered major injuries when she was struck by a car Wednesday night. The CHP responded at 6:45PM to Highway 3 near Brady Road in Hayfork. 73-year-old Janet Capes had already been taken by an ambulance and was en route to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. She apparently had been walking in the northbound lane of the highway when she was hit by a Toyota driven by 57-year-old Sarah Ackerly. By the time the car hit Capes, it was traveling at round 25 miles an hour, according to the CHP. The impact sent Capes flying, and she landed in the bike lane. The CHP is trying to determine why she was walking in the traffic lane and where she had been prior to that. Anyone who can provide information should call 623-3832.
