The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will elect a new chairperson Tuesday, very likely Patrick Jones.

Should Shasta County Supervisors be subject to term limits? At the request of newly elected District 5 Supervisor Chris Kelstrom, a presentation on what that would entail will be made at Tuesday’s meeting by County Counsel Rubin Cruse Jr. State law allows for term limits of no less than 2 terms, and such a change would have to be approved by the voters. It could not be applied retroactively.

The new Shasta County Courthouse is almost completed and the Board of Supervisors will discuss the repurposing of the two courtrooms contained in the jail building. Sheriff Michael Johnson will make a presentation on expanding jail capacity, though the existing capacity is unfulfilled due to a severe staffing shortage.
