As expected, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors has named a new acting County Executive Officer. Current Deputy CEO Mary Williams began working for the county in 2015 as an Administrative Board Clerk. The promotion begins February first, but is not permanent. The recruitment process continues to search for a permanent CEO to replace the retiring Pat Minturn. The former Public Works Director was asked to delay his retirement last year to fill in as CEO after the resignation of Matt Pontes. Williams will earn nearly $20,000 a month for the job.

A lengthy discussion with a lot of sniping was prompted by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors concerning the county’s contract with Dominion Voting Systems. The contract has been in place since 2017 and has another 3 years left. Terminating the contract and finding another supplier will cost millions, but Registrar of Voters Cathy Darling-Allen says there’s nothing wrong with the counting machines. The board voted to cancel the Dominion contract after the Shasta Lake City Council special election, which is currently underway.
