A longtime Redding business was destroyed by fire Wednesday night. Redding Fire Department was dispatched shortly before 10PM to Paint Marts on Larkspur Lane. Firefighters arrived to find a large volume of flames pouring from the roof. The building at Larkspur and Commerce has no windows other than the glass doors, and when those were breached to gain access, crews were met with thick chemical-laden smoke and heavy torching billowing from the doorways. All of the city’s fire resources were called to the scene and it took about 40 minutes to gain control. Personnel remained on scene for another 4 hours for mop-up. Damage to the building is estimated at $300,000. The contents were a complete loss, estimated at another $200,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
