Deputies Make 5 Arrests After Investigation Into October Homicide

Several arrests have been made from a death in October near Shasta Lake City that was considered suspicious. Early the morning of October 8th, a reported disturbance brought deputies to Construction Way, which is off Lake Boulevard north of Pine Grove Avenue. They found 34-year-old Alex Stevens badly injured from an apparent assault. He was hospitalized and 10 days later he was dead. Detectives determined that Stevens had been at a gathering in an industrial building, where evidence of an assault was found. An autopsy led to the cause of death being ruled homicide by head injuries. 36-year-old Robert Samuel Schmidt was arrested on charges including murder on January 19th, and since then four other arrests have been made. Tyler Ybarra is charged with involuntary manslaughter. Randy Taylor, Cameron Wagner and Nathan Roby are charged with being accessory to aggravated battery. Anyone with information is urged to contact major crimes at 245-6135.
