National Group Pens Letter To Gateway School District Board After New Prayer Policy

Following the adoption of a policy to open their meetings with prayer the Gateway School District Board has caught the attention of a national organization. The prayer decision was made by a 3 to 2 vote at last week’s meeting. The Freedom From Religion Foundation has sent a letter to Board President Cherrill Clifford saying that the Supreme Court has struck down prayer in school, due to it constituting favoritism toward religion and violating the establishment clause of the first amendment. The foundation recently won a suit against the Chino Valley Unified School District based on that argument, resulting in $275,000 spent on attorney fees.
