There’s been yet another setback in the start of a new trial for a Red Bluff man who kept a woman locked in a box most of the time for 7 years. In 1984 Colleen Stan escaped from Cameron Hooker, who had been raping her, torturing her and holding her in a wooden box since 1977. He was sentenced to 104 years in prison after a trial in San Mateo County, where the case had been relocated to find an impartial jury. Sentencing reform laws have now made it possible for Hooker to be paroled. A hearing last year prompted an order for a trial that would have hooker declared a sexually violent predator, making it easier to keep him behind bars. Trial dates were supposed to be set Monday, but that’s been delayed until late March because Hooker’s lawyer apparently tested positive for Covid.
