Update: Council Votes To Move Forward On New Riverfront Plan

A controversial plan to redo the Redding riverfront that was scrapped in 2021 was back before the city council Tuesday night. A group spearheaded by a developer called Populous and included K-2 Development and the McConnell Foundation made an unsolicited bid to the city to purchase land including the Civic Auditorium, and the Rodeo Grounds in order to totally revamp the area. The council decided to use 1.5 Million Dollars on a new riverfront specific plan before deciding if any further action should be taken. Tuesday night the council awarded the contract to draw up that plan to a consultant called Mig which includes Populous as a sub-contractor. The proposal for the new plan passed by a 3-2 vote.
